Movement

Artist.

As africans we have always been a dancing people so from the early Agee of 5yrs I have always been around dance, dancing at birthday parties and winning prizes with my signature move of whining my waist vigorously to the music of Awilo Logomba in the early 2000s.

The reason why I dance keeps changing overtime and is ever evolving. Presently I find myself embedded in a sort of movement activism where I challenge status quo with my works, speak truth to power and spark off socio-political conversations with my roots dance initiatives always kicking off fat a grassroots level.

For me dance is really that way of talking without talking, as a traveling artist I am interested in movement not solely as a choreographic element but also as a basic human necessity. The need to move from one place to the other and everything in between is dance to me.

Role: Dancer, Movement consultant, Collaborator

Tour dates 2022

Wey Dey Move is a Film and Installation Art Project which premiered at the Nieuwe instituut Netherlands in 2022.

The film takes the audience to Lagos, chasing the sounds and rhythms of Afro-pop, Amapiano and Afrobeats. Follow the beats onto the streets, where people organise their own parties and festivals between market stalls on one side and under-construction tower blocks on the other. Wey Dey Move celebrates the evolution of the urban landscape of Lagos as a self-made hub of creativity.

Rhythm and Blood (Namibia, Ghana, Nigeria.) - 2022

Role: Convener, Lead Dance artist.

This is a mobile dance activation we started to blur the gap between performer and audience while presenting dance in a provocative manner to spark off socio-political conversations in real time.

It is an invitation for minds to be poured open in a performative space, with Dance as the nucleus that guides the dialogue. We will bring everything to the table while trusting and hoping to have honest conversations everytime we gather.

We went round Nigeria, Ghana and Namibia with this event.

Slum Party Lagos. Dance and Performance Art Festival. (2019 - Till date)

Role: Founder, Artistic Director, Co-curator.

Arguably the biggest grassroots dance event in Nigeria, Slum Party is a community dance gathering aimed at retelling stories of Slum Communities while questioning peoples perception of Slums Areas. The event uses a typical Lagos Party template to give the people a very immersive Performance Art experience, Slum Party has been very instrumental in Oworonshoki community Lagos where it started. The event started as a major voice against incessant killings and violence in that community and has now grown into a full fleshed festival that gathers dancers and other artists from all over Africa and the diaspora.

It is an invitation for minds to be poured open in a performative space, with Dance as the nucleus that guides the dialogue. We will bring everything to the table while trusting and hoping to have honest conversations everytime we gather.

We went round Nigeria, Ghana and Namibia with this event.
